Worlds Apart

1.

In everyone’s eyes, Jiang Yuchuan is a powerful figure in the business world: arrogant, aloof, and refined, with not the slightest interest in women.

But only he knows the truth. It’s not that he isn’t interested in women. It’s that the woman he wants simply doesn’t want him.

2.

In high school, Xu Shuwei was sensitive and insecure, worlds apart from Jiang Yuchuan. She had always been realistic enough to know that even if they got together, they would never make it to the end.

So after graduation, she cut off contact with Jiang Yuchuan.

Even though the grown-up Xu Shuwei was no longer insecure, seeing Jiang Yuchuan again still made her feel painfully exposed, with nowhere to hide.

Later, the lofty man bent down before her. His long, elegant fingers held her slender calf and lifted her foot, reddened by her high heels, onto his knee.

His expression was as cool as ever, but his touch as he massaged her foot was tender.

With nowhere left to retreat, Xu Shuwei said, “Mr. Jiang, we’re worlds apart. I...”

Jiang Yuchuan looked up, his dark eyes seeming both amused and mocking. “Yes. Worlds apart.”

Though Xu Shuwei knew where she stood, she couldn’t help feeling a little heartbroken.

The man tugged at his thin lips and said self-deprecatingly, “You’re the clouds.”

*Reunion after years apart, mutual pining

/You are the clouds: Jiang Yuchuan’s unrequited love at eighteen, and the wish come true he finally gets at twenty-eight, with a future full of promise./
