Vanessa Anno wasn’t human. But that had never affected her life on Earth. For one thing, Vanessa’s alien mother looked exactly like a human, just like her, while her alien father was a sorcerer who could also change his own form. For another, Bellwood had far too many aliens. An alien showed up almost every week, and the local heroes would turn into a bunch of aliens and beat up other aliens. Eventually, the authorities just loosened the rules, and aliens were allowed to walk around openly. In a place like that, nobody paid any attention to aliens like Vanessa’s family, who were indistinguishable from humans on the outside. During summer break at age fourteen, Vanessa wanted to show her parents how much she loved them. Using what they had taught her, she secretly built a makeshift teleporter and planned to help her mother find her home planet, Krypton. But when the teleportation was over, all Vanessa saw was a field of rubble floating in space. After a moment’s thought, Vanessa realized... “The teleporter must be broken. I’ll have to try a few more times.” “...Sweetheart, have you ever considered that maybe your teleporter isn’t broken?” After visiting several places, gathering local materials, and throwing every available bit of science and magic at the problem, a dejected Vanessa used the last of her energy to return to Earth. The good news: She found someone from her mom’s home planet. The bad news: What do you mean, this is another universe? And most importantly: “What do you mean Krypton exploded?” This story could also be called: Why Does Everyone Keep Getting My Species Wrong? The DC arc is the final arc of the main story.
