“Whatever consciousness is, it is definitely not a form of computation.”, Roger Penrose
Engineer Chen Jing designed an assistant robot, R16, for his friend and superior, Li Xiaorong. She was intelligent and beautiful, with a consciousness and thought process almost indistinguishable from a human's.
Not long afterward, their planet, Chenyuan, was invaded by the planet Leheng. They fought back with all their strength and drove the enemy away. But things weren't as simple as they seemed.
R16, who disappeared for a time during the war; the distressing voices in her head; soldiers falling ill en masse; the development of a remarkably effective vaccine; and the eventual annihilation of the entire army... Something had been left behind on Chenyuan, and R16... might not be a robot, either.
Some of the clues pointed to Li Xiaorong, a respected young acting commander. An orphan, he was hiding an unknown past and a background he couldn't speak of. R16, too, was keeping things from him. After certain events, she discovered that her own origins were not so innocent, either.
After Li Xiaorong was arrested, R16, as his assistant, found her fate bound to his. What would become of them next?
