The Test Subject and the Commander

[This story includes a small amount of tactical speculation. Please don't apply it to real life.]

The Central Military Academy had a famous playboy who was the talk of the school. His exam scores were atrocious and his disciplinary record was taller than a person, but his mech piloting skills were absurdly good. His mech scores kept him ahead of everyone in the overall rankings.

As the school's unprecedented and perhaps never-to-be-surpassed record-holder for disciplinary violations, Yang Shizong had become a legend on campus.

Naturally, a legendary figure's legendary exploits wouldn't stop at skipping class and getting into fights. So Yang Shizong set his sights on the academy's new instructor.

Zhang Tingjun was the youngest and most promising operations staff officer in the General Staff Department. After an accident forced him to take leave, the Central Military Commission arranged a temporary assignment for him: teaching tactics to the academy's combat command class.

He had expected a group of energetic, studious students. Instead, events quickly spiraled out of his control.

What frightened Zhang Tingjun even more was that he seemed to have caught the attention of that arrogant brat.

-

Soldiers on patrol passed by outside.

Intermittent sobs came from the far end of the hallway.

Yang Shizong held Zhang Tingjun's face and wiped away his tears, whispering:

"Shh, they'll hear us."
