Gu Yuan picked up a cat with a pretty face and a terrible temper.

A picky eater, it only ever stole the chicken breast from his bowl.

Proud and haughty, it never rolled over to show him its belly.

And yet it was stupid in a way all its own.

It couldn't meow. When it got worked up, all it could do was squeak and spin in circles.

It bullied the weak and feared the strong, playing dead on the floor whenever it lost a fight.

His friend was beside himself with grief. “You definitely picked up a mentally challenged kitten.”

Jiu Li used to be the most beautiful fox in the entire demon realm.

But spiritual energy had dried up, and the nine tails he used to be so proud of had turned brittle and tangled. He could barely keep them groomed anymore.

So he hid his extra tails and decided to disguise himself as a kitten, then head to the human world to find some sucker... ahem, a human to clean up after him.

When he first arrived in the human world, he was so disoriented that he walked straight into a human's arms.

The human was called Gu Yuan. He was a little dim and often made Jiu Li angry, but he was generous with offerings and even groomed his fur every day.

The little fox quickly fell into depravity, actively acting cute to get petted and even wrapping his tail around the man while they slept.

“Anyway,” he said, stuffing his tail into the man's hand with utter confidence, “you're responsible for me now.”

When he came home from a business trip, he made sure to bring a new scratching board as an offering.

But when he opened the door, he found an unfamiliar young man sprawled on the sofa, glued to a variety show and laughing nonstop.

Nine fluffy, silky tails were scattered across the floor, and he was eating potato chips, leaving crumbs everywhere.

Gu Yuan: Where did this guy come from? And where's my cat?

Caught off guard, Jiu Li's true identity was exposed.

The little fox plunged headfirst into his arms and let out a trembling “Meow.”

Then he shamelessly stuffed his tails into the man's arms, hoping his cuteness would get him off the hook.

“Big brother, I'm your cat!”

One day, after they had been together for a long time, Jiu Li changed back into his original form and made his rounds to inspect his territory. In a corner, he unexpectedly found a bottle of dog fur conditioner, the very same kind Gu Yuan used on his fur.

When Gu Yuan came home, the little fox chased him around, baring his teeth and biting him until he had several sets of tooth marks.

“You actually used dog shampoo on my tails!”

The beneficiary was Lin Jianxing.

Curled up on the sofa, Lin Jianxing complained to his friend, “You have no idea how awful he is! He has no idea how to care about me. All he does is give me money!

“I want love! Love! Not money!

“This marriage isn't what I wanted at all!”

His friend's mouth twitched. Seriously suspecting that Lin Jianxing was showing off his relationship in disguise, he casually said, “Then why not get a divorce?”

Lin Jianxing thought that made a lot of sense.

Not long after, his friend got a message: My husband told me not to hang out with you.

I should never have gotten involved in your married life!
