Dressed in a white T-shirt, he leaned lazily against the railing, looking down at her.

Ji Peiyi went up to him and stumbled through an explanation of why she'd come, begging him to spare her boyfriend. Si Yao curled his lips into a smile. "Sure."
"Break up with him and be with me, and I'll let him go."

Ji Peiyi couldn't bear Si Yao's suffocating need for control. Without telling him, she applied for a government-sponsored study-abroad program. On the day she left the country, she sent him a breakup text, then blocked him on every channel.
She thought time would wear down Si Yao's possessiveness.
Someone as carefree as Si Yao might forget her before long.
A year later, Ji Peiyi completed her studies and returned home. The Si family elders invited her back to welcome her home.
Everyone attended the family dinner except Si Yao. During a chat after the meal, Ji Peiyi learned that he was in Jiangcheng, hundreds of miles away, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
At the elders' insistence, Ji Peiyi stayed the night at the Si home.
Late at night, in the quiet, she went downstairs for a glass of water. Si Yao, who should have been far away, suddenly appeared before her, still as handsome as ever.
"Peipei."
The man's long fingers gently brushed her cheek, their cool touch making her tremble.
"I've finally waited for you."
