[Deadpan, tangential-thinking, eccentric heroine x Gentle and refined yet shameless nonhuman hero]
Lin Jinchou is naturally carefree. Even when she repeatedly runs into ghosts in a thick fog, she never thinks to run home.
A strange bus carries her into a fog that never lifts. Her memories are reduced to fragments, and one deadly supernatural rule after another is broken.
Onstage, an unknown creature made of human limbs keeps tossing heads between its hands. After watching for a while, Lin Jinchou concludes: “It's pretty good at acrobatics. Must have taken ten years of practice offstage.”
In the fog, everyone screams and flees from a gigantic monster. While running, Lin Jinchou sizes it up and can't help marveling: “Its head is an equilateral triangle!”
She takes things as they come and cares about nothing. The only thing she can't ignore is the deep gaze that often falls on her.
Xu Xing looks mixed-race. He's mild-tempered and friendly, yet there's something strangely off about him.
Lin Jinchou approaches him to test her suspicions. She doesn't expect that when a monster ambushes them, she'll end up crouched face-to-face with him inside a wardrobe.
His gentle gaze rests on her. Lin Jinchou can't hear Xu Xing's heartbeat.
“You're not human. Aren't you afraid I'll tell everyone?”
“Go ahead. I can make sure they won't believe you.”
Xu Xing smiles warmly, and from then on clings tightly to Lin Jinchou.
Lin Jinchou never expects the cause of the fog to point to the ignorant beliefs of her hometown.
She has forgotten that she was born with a short life ahead of her. Doctors and fortune-tellers alike predicted she wouldn't live to adulthood. Her family tossed and turned sleeplessly every night and even spent their days following various masters to learn from them, while she thought she was living freely, chasing cats and dogs, enjoying nature, and standing up for justice every day...
Without meaning to, she once helped a boy with unusually vivid hair and eye colors.
For some reason, he clung to her and became her follower.
Many years later, the interrupted cult ritual still hasn't ended. The thick fog blocks Lin Jinchou's path through the cycle of reincarnation. An unknown presence looms above, watching her with cold indifference.
Now it's time to fight the evil god.
Before heading into battle, Lin Jinchou remembers something: “Why am I still alive? Where did this heart of mine come from?”
Xu Xing replies gently: “Have you ever played with clay or putty? It was made like that.”
“Then you're pretty skilled. I didn't reject it? That's amazing.”
Xu Xing: “...Yeah.”
