[Full-dive game · Consciousness prisoner · Awakened NPC · Rule breaker]
When Lin Wei collapsed, Lin Chen "heard" the dull thud among the roses in the virtual world.
It wasn't a sound, but a break in the data, like a snapped string sending a ripple of neural pulses through the Hongmeng Alliance's central server.
As a servant NPC numbered NPC_0735 in Starry Sea Love Song, his base protocol shouldn't have been able to process real-world alerts. But that ripple was so familiar that his virtual heart spasmed.
Three days ago, at the highest-level security meeting beneath the Tianshu Dome, Lin Wei had described an anomaly in deep-space exploration in the seventh quadrant as a "void echo."
Three days later, the same anomalous fluctuation flowed backward from reality into the game, crashing into the roses in the central garden and shaking loose a shower of data fragments.
The medical pod's alarm pierced the dimensional barrier, crackling in his artificial ear:
"The chairman is in a deep coma... neural pulse weapon... suppress the news..."
He shouldn't have been able to "hear" any of this. An NPC's hearing should only cover the jingling of players' skirt bells, the chime of a proposal ring, and the System's grating announcement: "Logic error. Erasure imminent."
But the instant Lin Wei fell, a line of blood-red text appeared in Lin Chen's field of vision:
[Return data stream detected: prototype memory fragments]
[Protocol conflict: NPC_0735 encapsulation protocol vs. original observation privileges]
[Seal level: 7 | Stripped: 6 | Seals remaining: 1 (emotional simulation protocol)]
[Erasure countdown: 00:02:59]
Beyond the rose bushes, players were streaming toward the central garden. The System had just updated: "Mysterious Guest" Lin Wei's avatar had descended, opening a limited-time romance event.
They screamed and cheered, thrilled at the chance to "win over" the Alliance chairman.
No one knew they were chasing a woman who had already been pronounced dead in the real world.
Lin Chen tried to send a warning. The moment his finger touched the in-game emergency communications protocol, the System exploded:
[High-risk data virus detected]
[Source: NPC_0735]
[Erasure protocol activated]
Code began gnawing at his limbs. His existence was being deleted. Darkness crept in from the edges of his vision.
Just 0.3 seconds before he vanished completely, a little girl in blue overalls scrambled out from among the roses.
She carried a data hammer taller than she was, and tilted her head as she watched Lin Chen break apart. A string of code he couldn't recognize flashed across her lenses:
"The alarm's ringing... corruption index... 93.7%... above the threshold..."
She wasn't looking at him. She was looking at what lay behind him.
Deep in the data foundations beneath the rose bushes, a dark golden chain rose from the ground and wrapped itself around his core code. It wasn't an erasure program. It was something deeper, the materialization of some kind of seal.
"The bad thing says," Arale raised her hammer. Her voice had lost its childish softness, leaving only cold, programmatic precision. "There's a key hidden in your seal."
Then she casually brought the hammer down on the erasure program's stream of code.
[Warning: Rule breaker detected]
[Erasure process: delayed]
The countdown stopped at 00:00:01.
The little girl grinned, baring her white teeth. "The bad thing also says your boots are really ugly."
She pointed to the NPC administrator outside the garden. At the data level, the model of his feet glimmered with a cold metallic sheen:
Military boot textures.
The last fragment of Lin Wei's memory exploded in Lin Chen's consciousness:
"...military boots... belong to... my logistics chief..."
But deeper within the fragment, another layer of encrypted information surfaced:
Du Heng hadn't left a flaw. Du Heng had deliberately let him see the boots.
The boots were bait. The tracking was a path. The logistics core was a trap.
And the trap was designed to force him to strip away the final seal.
[Reading Guide]
A suspenseful future-game story, told from the female lead's perspective; one-on-one romance; happy ending.
The male lead, Lin Chen, is an awakened NPC and the sealed logistics chief. Six of his seven seals have been removed; the final seal, the "emotional simulation protocol," is the key to breaking the deadlock.
Supporting character Arale is a data chaos entity and rule breaker. Her "Easter egg" ability lets her ignore the System's rules, making her the key variable in reversing the erasure.
