The Cyber Cat and the Dreamweaving Girl

Meiqi, a student in Class 2 of Grade 9 at No. 7 Middle School in Xingang City, is an utterly ordinary girl: average grades, few friends, and a knack for drawing an entire city on her scratch paper whenever she zones out in class.

Meiqi only wants to doze off during a stuffy math class.

Then she hears a cat meow.

It isn't an ordinary meow. It sounds like electronic static, like an old radio failing to tune in, and comes straight from her desk drawer.

"Psst! Keep quiet, meow! The dreamscape is tearing apart, and the city is about to plunge into chaos! Master Xiaoye needs your help. Dream rescue operation, starting now, meow!"

The cat, who calls itself "Xiaoye," has two spinning LED bulbs for eyes and a tail tip that sprays pale blue streams of data. It says Meiqi is a "Dreamweaver," the first human in centuries able to see "rifts in the dreamscape" while awake.

Meiqi says, "I'm in Grade 9, and I have monthly exams next week. I don't have time to save the world."

Xiaoye: "You got 38 on your math test. Saving the world is way easier than getting a passing grade, meow."

-- And so begins the absurd daily life of an ordinary girl who just wants to scrape through her high school entrance exams and a foul-mouthed, water-fearing cyber-cat that can hack into the school PA system to play "Song of the Cat," as they set out to mend the dreamscape.

They venture into a classroom dream drowned in exam anxiety, searching for an exit among countless falling test papers;

They mend a convenience store clerk's recurring nightmare and discover an entire city's loneliness hidden inside;

They push open the bronze gates of the "Worry-Free Antique Shop," behind which lies a thousand-year-old political conspiracy among the cat clans;

They even switch souls once. Meiqi parkours on four legs in a cat's body, while Xiaoye uses Meiqi's face to tell the homeroom teacher, "Teacher, I want to drop out and save the world."

Gradually, Meiqi realizes that Xiaoye isn't an ordinary cat.

It is a "bugged program" exiled by the cat clans, an error log from a far greater system, and... the choice made by another version of herself in a parallel universe.

"Sailor Uniform Meiqi" and "Detective Hat Meiqi," reflections from other planes, are seeping into her reality, bit by bit, through the rifts in the dreamscape.

When all the fragments of the dreams come together to form a mirror, Meiqi finally sees:

The so-called "Dreamweaver" isn't weaving other people's dreams.

She's weaving the self she chose from countless possibilities in parallel worlds.
