Taking "Beichun City", an old industrial area in Northeast China, as the background, it tells the story of the struggles and decline of three families and two generations in the changing times over the past thirty years. Through real-life issues such as the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, the wave of layoffs, real estate bubbles, and educational and medical difficulties, it shows the powerlessness and tenacity of ordinary people under the crushing fate of fate. Each character wanders in the gray area of human nature, and every choice he makes carries the mark of the times and individual helplessness. In the end, everyone is involved in an inescapable vortex of fate.
