Tracing Back

Xu Jin Xiao is the only disciple of a destitute sect. Her master often tells her that their sect was once prosperous, with thousands of disciples. The most illustrious of them all was her junior grand-uncle, said to be an unparalleled genius whose sword shook the heavens.

But according to the sect's records, this junior grand-uncle defied convention and committed every manner of misdeed. He betrayed his friends and teachers, bringing calamity upon the entire sect. He was an undisputed harbinger of disaster, and largely responsible for the sect's current ruin.

Later, her master gives her an immortal artifact and sends her down the mountain, telling her that a calamity-bringing demon is about to appear in the mortal realm. She must find and kill it.

Xu Jin Xiao remembers her master's instructions and descends the mountain to search for the demon. Following the artifact's guidance, she finds a frail, pathetic man who is often dead drunk with a wine jar in his arms, no different from a beggar on the roadside.

Aside from his good looks, he's useless. But the artifact keeps pointing to him, so Xu Jin Xiao has no choice but to grit her teeth and follow him.

Then a riot breaks out, and Xu Jin Xiao is transported to an unfamiliar place. She has just sat up when she hears a sword humming behind her.

She turns around to see the boy's red robes reflected in the crimson clouds filling the sky. As waves of grass ripple around him, he stands atop a demon corpse struggling beneath his feet, gazing down at her with cool, indifferent eyes. "Hm? What little demon are you?"

Not only does this boy have the same face as the pathetic man who has to rummage through every pocket just to find a single coin, he also shares a name with the junior grand-uncle from the sect's records, whose list of crimes is too long to count.

[Arrogant and unruly x adorable weapon of destruction]

An old trope with a fresh twist.
