I Just Want to Quietly Be a Cook

A descendant of a 21st-century martial arts family transmigrates to America during the Revolutionary War. The Continental Army and his former employers, the British, are locked in fierce combat, and the North American continent is in chaos. The protagonist wants no part in any conflict. All he wants is to quietly run his little restaurant and make a decent living in this wild land.

But his cooking is so extraordinary that his fragrant, golden-brown pies win over America's new money, while his delicious dumplings win over Britain's old money. He becomes the object of a tug-of-war between the two countries, and his little restaurant becomes the largest intelligence relay station in both. Before long, the winds are rising and the clouds are gathering.

The protagonist only wants to quietly be a cook, not to stir up the political scene. But someone promises him, "If you'll help us, on the day we win the war, I'll ask the President to give you this whole street."

The protagonist looks at the future Times Square and slaps his thigh. "Deal! A verbal promise won't do. Put it in writing!"

This should be a farming, infrastructure-building, and food story.
