My name is Guang.
When my parents named me, they hoped my world would always be bright, forever bathed in the light of warmth and hope.
But after they passed away, my relatives sent me to an orphanage. What light could there be in my world now? Even its colors were fading away.
Then I saw Izana again. He had been sent here too.
If he hadn't saved me that day, dragging me away to escape, I would probably have died beneath the robbers' knives alongside my parents.
Izana.
He was the one who pulled me along as we ran. He was the one who saved me.
That day, the scarlet blood on the ground grew farther and farther away. The setting sun was so vivid it seemed almost uncanny. At that moment, all the colors seemed to gather around him, blending into his violet eyes, like the evening glow.
That sunset was the cruelest sun I had ever seen.
.
The next time I saw Izana, the sky was overcast and gloomy.
He had actually appeared at this orphanage too.
The sky was gray, the clouds shapeless, and the sun hidden somewhere out of sight. The whole world was dreary and colorless, just as it always was.
But then Izana appeared.
That silver hair was just as it had been six months ago, as if tearing open the chaotic world and dragging life by force to a place of safety. He was only a little older than me, yet somehow he made me feel safe.
I didn't know whether he still remembered me,
but I had never forgotten him.
.
A few years later, Izana had changed too.
But he was still dazzling, still able to paint my world with color again. I thought Izana had a unique, extraordinary charisma and strength. Even the delinquents who looked down on everyone else were fiercely loyal to him.
I didn't know what to call this feeling. I only knew I didn't want to leave Izana. I wanted to hold on to him, just as I had since the beginning, to keep hold of the silver-haired boy who had dragged me away to safety.
He was a new light that had appeared in my world.
But even after we had lived together at the orphanage for years, he still scoffed at all the feelings I had for him.
He didn't need that sort of thing, he said. Excessive feelings would only bring him pain and trouble.
I understood.
I would do my best not to bother him.
But why? Why, just as I tried to keep my distance from him like he had asked, did he give me such a terrifying look?
His violet eyes were so dark that all I could see in them was a dense gloom. In the moonlight, my vision gradually cleared, revealing a boy lying unconscious at Izana's feet, so badly bruised and swollen that his face was unrecognizable.
Izana gave me a seemingly gentle smile full of malice, then lifted his chin toward me. His voice still carried traces of the violence that had yet to fade.
"Come here."
"Look. Is he the one standing beside Guang today?"
