Princess of a Turbulent Era

In the first year of the Sisheng era, in Chang'an, in the tenth month, the autumn wind blew bleakly beneath a dark moon and bright stars.

The crowds who had gathered outside the Duting Post earlier that day had long since dispersed. In the darkness of a narrow alley, a few clacks of the night watchman's wooden clapper rang out. Now and then, a children's rhyme drifted faintly through the night, accompanied by barking dogs: “One fire, two fires, a child in red sits upon the throne.”

No one noticed the blood mingled with rainwater at the end of the street begin to ripple faintly. Beneath the starlight, it slowly took the shape of an almost transparent figure. The features of a man, no longer young, emerged.

A streak of light floated out of the darkness. A white butterfly settled between his brows, its wings trembling. His eyes suddenly flew open.

I realized that no matter what I write, it always ends up being a story about a little princess. So that's what I'll call it. ^-^
