Xie Buyu gets struck by heavenly lightning while breaking through, then discovers that she's actually the cannon-fodder villainess master in a cultivation novel about a domineering hero and his harem?!
A stream of dazzling golden text in the sky tells her that the disciple she picked up as a child and painstakingly raised will turn evil one day. He'll rip her apart, slaughter every last person in the Tianyan Sect, then build a harem of three thousand and ascend to immortality in style... Happy now?
Xie Buyu's face falls. "No! That ungrateful disciple who'll betray his master!"
She can't bring herself to kill him, not after raising him from a baby. Xie Buyu grabs her sword and sets off with blazing confidence to find out who's led her good disciple astray!
But fate has other plans. Anyone who dares interfere with the story gets punished. With no other choice, Xie Buyu possesses a cat spirit pet and follows her disciple around, waiting for a chance to change his fate.
She secretly rids him of poison, clears obstacles from his path, and lays out his road to immortality... All she wants is for master and disciple to live in peace and for the sect to remain safe.
But little by little, she realizes that the disciple she raised from childhood seems to be looking at her in a rather strange way...
Gu Qingchen is a model cat owner. Every day, he diligently pets his cat, feeds it, and cleans its litter box. He even bathes and sleeps with it.
Ignoring the cat's resisting claws and eyes, he smiles as he buries his face in its soft belly and breathes in deeply.
Until the day she finally reveals her true form to save him, Gu Qingchen grabs her without hesitation and buries his face against her neck, asking in a coaxing voice, "Master, how much longer are you going to hide from me?"
"The whole world may want to kill me, but your disciple fears nothing."
"But you, Master... now that you've come back, don't even think of abandoning me again."
Of the fifty paths of the Great Dao, Heaven derives forty-nine. There is one path of escape.
She, Xie Buyu, is that sole variable. Just watch her exploit loopholes in Heaven's laws while changing her fate against the odds!
But as she watches her disciple's handsome face draw closer and closer, Xie Buyu is dumbfounded. "That can't be the fate I'm supposed to change, can it?!"
