When Yukimura Became a Farmer

Other six-year-olds get birthday presents like toy cars, Ultraman, and chocolate.

Yukimura Seiichi got a very different birthday present when he turned six: a System.

[Beep! Congratulations, Host. You are now bound to Rikkai Farm Story. Build Rikkai Farm into the greatest farm in the world!]

System: Newbie bonus unlocked: [Kelp Seedling] x1. Please find it yourself.

Yukimura: Kelp?

System: It has the following traits: seaweed-like curly hair, amazing athletic ability, and constantly shouting that he wants to be NO.1.

Six-year-old Yukimura Seiichi fell silent.

He looked down at the strawberry cake in his hands, then up at the virtual screen floating in midair.

As the calmest kindergartener in Kanagawa Prefecture, he coolly asked a question no human child should have to consider:

"Are you sure this is kelp and not a kelp sprite?"

System: Please find it yourself, Farm Manager.

Yukimura: Fine, then. (*^_^*)

He soon discovered the System's hidden rule: farming was all done through tennis.

So six-year-old Yukimura Seiichi picked up a racket and walked onto the court.

No one took him seriously at first.

What could a pretty little boy who looked like a doll possibly do?

Then everyone lost.

The miracle of the farm began...

Yukimura unlocked the "Staff" section.

First employee: a serious little boy with a stern expression who kept yelling, "You're too lax!" He used iron-fisted discipline on every creature in the farm that broke the rules.

Yukimura gave him a name tag: [Assistant Manager].

[First Use of Mental Tennis]

Employee +1: a sleepy-eyed boy who always carried a notebook, observing and taking notes. His notebook was filled with mysterious data such as "XX isn't exercising enough. Recommend two extra hours of training."

Yukimura gave him a name tag: [Agricultural Adviser].

Later on...

[Won the Regional Championship]

System notification: Farm map expanded. Attractiveness increased.

A white-haired fox applied for a job of his own accord.

A red-haired big cat traveled a great distance to join them.

A red-haired little pig came crying and begging to join, clutching homemade tea eggs.

Rare and wondrous creatures of every kind.

Yukimura's farm grew livelier by the day.

Yet they still couldn't find the "Newbie Bonus Kelp Seedling," no matter how hard they looked.

He searched every inch of the farm.

He played match after match.

He unlocked one hidden quest after another.

Where was the kelp?

Then one day, someone hopped onto the wall around Rikkai Farm.

His fluffy curls glistened in the sunlight. With his hands on his hips, the boy shouted to the whole yard:

"Starting today, I'm going to beat everyone and become NO.1!"

The System flashed wildly:

[Beep! Quest updated: Kelp Seedling found!]

[Note: This creature is extremely rebellious. The Farm Manager is advised to tame it with caution.]

Yukimura looked up at that seaweed-like mop of curls, his smile growing wider.

"You've finally arrived," he said softly.

"Welcome to my farm."

The strongest farm, Rikkai Dai: the whole team has assembled.
