(This might not be quite bleak enough for a newspaper, so I'm planning to torment my original characters instead.)
A small, atypical cyberpunk story with no neon lights, just yellow sodium lamps. The setting is a world where Earth acquired Kryptonian technology far earlier than in canon. Science and genetic engineering advanced by leaps and bounds, even gradually reshaping human genes to resemble Kryptonians... The inspiration was actually the Gaslight universe. When I saw how technologically backward the Gaslight universe was, I kind of wanted to imagine an extraordinarily advanced cyber-Gotham ( ). Given how I like to sneak in my personal favorites, Bruce definitely didn't die as a newborn (looking away), but this isn't a story about a reborn Bruce.

"What does 'overcast' mean?" Young Bruce Wayne pointed at a word in his book and asked loudly.
"It's a kind of weather. The sky is covered in clouds, so you can't see the sun even during the day, darling." Martha gently held him. "I remember Gotham was always overcast..."
"But Mom, when does Gotham not have a sun?" he asked, confused. "How could clouds block the sun?"
