A bittersweet reunion after a long separation, a gentle and resilient special education teacher x a rebellious, roguish tech tycoon
Summer 2019, a fine drizzle fell over Jiangcheng.
At a donation ceremony for a special education school, the man was the undisputed center of attention as Jiangcheng's rising tech tycoon.
Seeing Cheng Yichen staring, a colleague smiled and said, "He's practically a celebrity now. I heard he's from Mincheng. You're from the same hometown. Do you know him?"
"It's hard not to," Cheng Yichen said, pressing her lips together. "Everyone on the streets is talking about him."
They talked about the man's early success, how his company had just gone public, how he was worth over a hundred million, and how he had a beautiful woman by his side. He was at the height of his fame.
But who knew that the boy in the wheelchair had once said he would pick the stars from the sky for her with his own hands?
On the ride back, a child tugged at Cheng Yichen's sleeve and signed: Star Teacher, are you unhappy?
Cheng Yichen replied: I helped so many children today. I'm very moved.
The child was confused: But, Star Teacher, you're crying.
Cheng Yichen stroked her hair and patiently explained: They're happy tears.
She was glad that the boy who had wanted to pick the stars for her was still living a good life.
Summer 2010. During the summer vacation before her senior year of high school, Cheng Yichen's parents forced her to get tutoring at the home of a retired special-grade teacher.
Rain fell steadily as she held a little umbrella, splashing mud up her legs.
When she got to the teacher's house, the girl knocked on the door halfheartedly for ages, then decided to count down from ten. If the door wasn't open by the time she finished, she'd turn around and leave. Eight horses couldn't drag her back.
"Two..."
The door opened.
A boy sat in a wheelchair, with thin lips, a straight nose, and slightly lowered eyelids. His expression was so detached it seemed to chill the air, and Cheng Yichen's heart began to race.
But before she could speak, the boy scoffed. "Door-to-door salespeople don't need to open their mouths."
