Yu Bai is a little bastard.
A bona fide good-for-nothing rich kid, he can't make money from investments and can't focus on his studies. After spending years at the Military Medical University, he came back with nothing to show for it but his looks.
The one good thing he ever did was take care of a retired senior student for three months in college to rack up volunteer hours.
The senior had returned from a medical aid mission in Africa with impaired vision. But he was handsome, with an extraordinary air about him. Sitting among a crowd of old men and women, he stood out like a crane among chickens, a sight for sore eyes.
As luck would have it, Yu Bai liked older men.
Good in bed and full of charm.
Best of all, men like that were mature and steady. They wouldn't make a scene if you broke up.
For those three months, Yu Bai took care of him "inside and out," down to the smallest detail.
After one of their encounters, Lu Xiu stroked his head and said tenderly, "You shouldn't have to put up with this."
Yu Bai sat astride him, laughing carelessly.
"I don't mind. What can I say? I like you."
But there wasn't a hint of emotion in his eyes. Lu Xiu couldn't see it.
When the three months of volunteer work were over, Lu Xiu went into the operating room for his final vision correction surgery. Yu Bai dusted himself off, left behind a top-journal paper with the first author's name still blank, and coolly wrapped up his limited-time "love."
Years later, the Yu family was hit by an unexpected crisis and fell on hard times. Yu Bai was forced to return to his old line of work.
The circle was small, but luckily he hadn't mixed with them before. No one knew what kind of person he was, which was perfect.
Landing a stable, respectable job starts with successfully choosing each other with your advisor. By a stroke of luck, J University had just hired a new doctoral supervisor this year. He was so young and inexperienced at supervising students that he became an unexpected dark horse.
There was no nameplate on the newly assigned office door. Yu Bai put on his prettiest, most innocent smile and pushed the door open, sweetly reciting the flattery he'd prepared.
"Though I don't know you yet, I'm confident that my advisor and I will be in sync and share a wonderful time together..."
"Oh? What makes you so sure?"
A somewhat familiar voice rang out. Yu Bai abruptly looked up and met a pair of dark, calm eyes. He froze.
"Why did you stop talking?" Lu Xiu tossed his pen onto the desk, interlaced his fingers beneath his chin, and leaned forward.
"I thought you were going to say it was because you liked me."
The gong is a genuine male obstetrician-gynecologist. If that profession is a dealbreaker for you, please mind the warning, orz.
It's an old-school, crazy, melodramatic story, though it might also come with a very realistic, soul-crushing grindset. Anyway, it's not a serious story!
Theme: Eggs are round and slippery, impossible to hold on to, just like little bastards.
