Gu Yi has lost his memory.
He wakes in a strange world. His instincts tell him this isn't his home, but he's forgotten the way back.
After waking, he hears two voices in his head.
One claims to be his cultivation partner. It says its name is Cunxin. It says Gu Yi met with disaster, and that it defied the Way of Heaven to bring him back to life. His amnesia is just a side effect of his resurrection.
What is a cultivation partner?
The other voice says:
"System... damaged."
"Spatial jump failed. Repair progress... 3%. Host, please wait patiently."
What's a System?
Gu Yi sets out to recover his memories, only to find that the more he uncovers, the more shocking they are.
What do you mean, I had ten cultivation partners and killed them all?
What do you mean, I'm the Human King, and I trampled all the other races underfoot?
What do you mean, I wiped out the Immortal race?!
Gu Yi looks at his small, utterly unimposing body. Are you talking about me?
The legendary Gu Yi was powerful, wise, all-knowing, and all-capable. But the current Gu He is weak and helpless, and without Cunxin, he wouldn't survive a day in this world.
So Gu He is forced to spend his days placating his overpowered cheat.
"Cunxin, don't lose it. I really don't know him."
"What do you mean, I wanted to die with him back then? I never did. Don't make things up."
"I swear, out of all my cultivation partners, I love you the most."
"I used to say he was the most beautiful? Impossible. No one is more beautiful than you."
"You want to kill the Demon Emperor to entertain me? You don't have to... Really, you don't."
This is a fantastical and bizarre world.
The human, ghost, demon, and spirit races coexist in this world, though not exactly harmoniously.
In the distant past, there was also a race more powerful than all of them combined: the Immortal race.
They were once the rulers of this world. They were powerful and proud, and possessed true immortality.
All living beings beneath them were their slaves.
Then, one day, the Immortal race disappeared without a trace.
History came to a standstill at that moment, then suddenly resumed a hundred years later.
That missing century is known as the "Immortal Gate Incident."
Everyone believes the Immortals ascended through the Immortal Gate to the Immortal Realm.
When they ascended, they left behind immortal husks, the only proof they ever existed.
These relics of the Immortal race became treasures coveted by all. Countless conflicts have arisen over immortal husks throughout history.
There is no end to the speculation about the Immortal race.
Why would such a powerful race leave this world without a trace?
Throughout the ages, countless heroes and extraordinary individuals have devoted themselves to uncovering the truth buried in history.
But those who glimpse even a fraction of the truth are driven mad.
And those who survived the catastrophe have remained silent about what happened.
Only they know that the Immortal race never left. Someone erased them from this world.
All because that person said, "A race this damn overpowered can't be allowed to exist in this world."
Gu He: "I said that? Impossible. Absolutely impossible."
"Probably impossible."
"Doesn't seem likely."
"Maybe I said it once or twice."
"I said it. So what? Is there a problem? A race that can only be born and never die would make this world collapse if it stayed. I was just following the Way of Heaven (the System) and fixing a bug. Nothing wrong with that!"
