Grand Xuan Court Lady * Eldest Princess
The Eldest Princess sat upright in her palanquin, carried by four eunuchs. The palace maids held fans and a canopy of fans above her.
The head matron quickly stepped aside, leading the newly arrived palace maids to kneel in a row.
“This servant pays her respects to Her Highness the Eldest Princess. May Your Highness enjoy a peaceful day.”
The Eldest Princess rested one hand against her temple and glanced over them indifferently. Her gaze stopped on the last palace maid.
“Stop.”
The Eldest Princess parted her delicate lips. “Raise your head and let me have a look.”
The maid lifted her head, as lovely as a hibiscus emerging from clear water, with skin smooth as jade and a cool, moonlit look in her eyes.
“A Jin, you’re quite capable. We haven’t seen each other in a few days, and you’ve already risen to Sixth-Rank Director of Adornment.” The Eldest Princess reclined on the chaise, languidly holding a storybook as she gave a soft, charming laugh.
Wei Jin knelt and cupped her hands, bowing her head until it touched them. “I am deeply humbled, Your Highness. It is mostly thanks to Your Highness’s favor.”
“Favor?” The Eldest Princess gave a mocking laugh. “Perhaps tomorrow I should ask Imperial Brother to hand you over to me.”
“Your Highness...”
The Eldest Princess’s expression darkened. She tossed the storybook in her hand at Wei Jin, who was kneeling beside the couch.
“I treat you well and show you such kindness, yet you reject me time and time again. You’re certainly bold.”
The bed curtains fell. Between their half-hidden folds, a slender, jade-white hand reached out. In the candlelight, its wrist was pale and its skin flushed.
Wei Jin suddenly felt her mouth go dry. She hurriedly lowered her head, not daring to look again.
“A Jin, come here.”
“I got some storybooks today. They’re quite fascinating.”
The Eldest Princess’s red lips curved up. “This tale of making love on Mount Wu... Why don’t you try it with me, A Jin?”
The candles went out. Layer upon layer of gauzy curtains swayed around the carved sandalwood bed.
