Long Time No See

A river runs from north to south through Suhe Town. It has accompanied generations of children as they grew up.

Three-year-old Shan Xingchi drags a playmate back from the riverbank and takes it upon himself to name him Shan He.

One is a left-behind child who only sees his parents once in a blue moon. The other is a frail child cruelly abandoned by his parents.

No one has ever taught them what they should or shouldn't do.

On nights no one knows about, they embrace and kiss, and grow even more intimate.

Moonlight gilds them, as if outlining them with a thin silver lining.

Their surging love makes their lonely hearts sink into its depths.

As a little boy, Shan Xingchi reaches out and pulls Shan He back from the brink of death. Shan He is immersed in Shan Xingchi's blazing, sunlike love, letting him do whatever he wants.

Feelings left untended are like a flood, sweeping away two inexperienced boys.

The town is too isolated to tolerate anything shocking, and it has no room for their love.

After they are discovered, Shan Xingchi refuses to back down, but Shan He takes all the blame upon himself, decides their future alone, and leaves this beautiful, decaying town.

Later, one heads north and the other south.

When they meet again, all they have left to say is, "Long time no see."

Reader's guide:

It's not angsty, it's not angsty, it's not angsty. Important things are said three times.

All right, there's a tiny bit of angst in the middle, but only a little. I swear.

Happy ending! This is important!
