[Dream of the Red Chamber] Memories of the Past

*First-person perspective

I was once a little maid in the Jia household. Now I am old and frail, and I take up my pen to write my memoirs:

...That day, I heard that a new emperor had been enthroned, and that the new emperor was a woman... The streets had been paved with concrete, and new schools had been built. Every child, no matter their family's circumstances, had to learn to read and write...

The times had changed beyond recognition, and everyone's fate had taken a dramatic turn.
