Marrying Down (Matriarchal Society)

They switched spouses before the wedding, and Xia He's childhood sweetheart married someone else.

Low in status and with no say in the matter, Xia He was forced to marry a noble young lord she had met only once.

Unhappy with the arrangement, she drank, had fun, and fought crickets.

She did anything that involved having a good time, day after day, all to show her new husband that no amount of power could bend her will. She didn't like him, and she wasn't the talented, ambitious person he imagined her to be.

But after they married, her noble husband, who had married beneath his station, not only never urged her to study, but even coquettishly begged to go out and have fun with her.

When they went drinking, he stood in front of her and drank in her place. Even when he got completely drunk, he still told her how pretty she was.

When they fought crickets, he won every bet. Whenever he got excited, he would try to hug her without a care for whether they were in public.

When they watched a dance performance, he went onstage himself to compete. Xia He watched her noble, handsome husband flirt and show off in front of her, and could only think that she must have gone mad.

Unable to refuse him, she treated him like a plaything and took out all her frustrations on him.

Cui Yang accepted it all, telling her she did well, that she had a real touch, and that he liked it.

Xia He had never met anyone like him. Still, she had to admit that life with him was truly enjoyable. Just as she thought the two of them would muddle through life together like this, her childhood sweetheart came back.
