Ruan Shiyin has lived with the Shen family since middle school.

She is lucky that Grandma Shen has always been fond of her, treating her like her own granddaughter.

There is one other person in the Shen family who treats her well: Shen Tingxu.

Aside from being ten years older than her, Shen Tingxu is stern and old-fashioned, like a snow-covered mountain that never thaws. Ruan Shiyin is afraid of him.

During the first semester of her senior year, Grandma Shen had to go abroad. Worried about Ruan Shiyin, she asked Shen Tingxu to look after her for a while.

At first, Ruan Shiyin resisted spending time with Shen Tingxu. Before long, though, she found herself growing inexplicably dependent on him.

That summer, after her college entrance exams, Ruan Shiyin confessed her feelings and was rejected. She moved out of the Shen household of her own accord.

Once she decided she would stop liking Shen Tingxu, she found his behavior harder and harder to understand.

One time, when Ruan Shiyin had a fever, a male classmate carried her to the hospital.

Ignoring her protests, Shen Tingxu carried her to the car.

Ruan Shiyin struggled to get out. "Put me down! I don't need you looking after me!"

"Then who do you want looking after you?" Shen Tingxu's gaze was cold. "That guy outside?"

"So what if I do?" Ruan Shiyin looked out the window. "It's none of your business anyway."

The next moment, Shen Tingxu turned her face toward him and kissed her fiercely.

The car window slowly lowered. Ruan Shiyin didn't want anyone to see and pushed hard against him, but Shen Tingxu held her in his arms and kissed her even more deeply.

A moment later, breathless from the kiss, Ruan Shiyin couldn't help protesting, "Shen Tingxu, what gives you the right to kiss me?!"

Shen Tingxu brushed his thumb over her lips and said, every word deliberate, "Because you were mine to begin with."

How could he bear to let his rose go to someone else?
