(My next novel is coming soon. I'm working on the manuscript. Please add it to your collection ⭐⭐)
The Yun family had held hereditary noble rank for four generations and enjoyed great prestige.
Yun Duanyue was the only girl in the third generation of the Yun family. She had been doted on since childhood and never lifted a finger around the house. All she had to do was wait until she came of age, then bring a son-in-law into the family to wait on her.
Who could have foreseen that disaster would strike? The Yun family was convicted overnight. The men were exiled, while the women were sent to the palace women's quarters as servants.
After two months of hardship there, the head steward of the inner palace arrived with the newly appointed Crown Prince to select a maid.
The new Crown Prince had spent his early years wandering abroad. People said he had worked as a horse groom and become a bandit, and his fierce, menacing presence made him hard to approach.
Yun Duanyue peeked up at him. The Crown Prince was tall and sturdy, with a handsome, heroic bearing. He wasn't as terrifying as the rumors claimed... Well, his skin was just a little dark.
The Crown Prince met her eyes among the palace maids with their heads lowered. He raised his chin lazily. "Her."
Only after entering the Eastern Palace did she learn that the Crown Prince suffered from headaches, had an unpredictable temper, and was especially fond of killing people in his sleep. He had already killed two maids, and she was the third unlucky one.
Yun Duanyue was terrified of provoking the Crown Prince and losing her life, so she nervously tried to do her job well. But she had been pampered since childhood and had no idea how to serve anyone.
She struggled to bring him hot water to wash his face and nearly scalded a layer of skin off him.
She accidentally gave him soup left over from the night before, giving him diarrhea for an entire day.
Just as she was panicking, the Crown Prince put out a hand to stop her and said sternly, "Go rest on the bed. I'll do it myself."
Not only did he take excellent care of himself, he also helped keep her quarters spotless.
In a daze, Yun Duanyue returned to a life where meals were brought to her and clothes were put on her.
In public, she was a maid in the Eastern Palace. In private, the ruthless Crown Prince would crouch before her to put on her shoes, saying helplessly, "How do you even manage to put your socks on inside out?"
Later, he took care of her so thoroughly that he took her to bed.
After the storm had passed, he held her tightly in his arms and whispered in her ear, "I should take a Crown Princess."
Yun Duanyue buried her face in his chest, her muffled voice coming through: "Then you two can serve me together."
"No," the Crown Prince chuckled. "She can't serve anyone."
He took a decree clearing her family's name from beside the pillow and stopped her tears before they could fall. "Because you're the one I want to marry."
