Yu Wenshiji's life was a "delicate transformation" of a son of the Guanlong aristocracy at the time of the dynasty's revolution: from the prince-in-law of the Sui Dynasty, to the younger brother of the regicide, to the prime minister of Li and Tang Dynasties. In the end, he became one of the few former nobles who could escape unscathed in the late Sui and early Tang Dynasties and became a very popular minister.
