Late Ming: I Traded the Money for a House for Horses

In the second year of the Chongzhen reign, the Han family had finally saved enough money to buy a house after twenty years of scrimping.

On the day the contract was to be signed, twenty-six-year-old Han Shen refused his father in front of everyone.

"I'm not spending these twenty-eight taels on a house. I'm buying a horse."

His father was so furious that he cut off all business ties with him. Someone else bought the house, and the two taels of earnest money went to waste.

The whole family thought Han Shen had gone mad.

But Han Shen saw the empty carts returning from the west, the merchants too afraid to buy on credit, and the old hand who had hauled goods for seven years refusing to travel the old roads again.

He didn't know when the Ming Dynasty would fall into chaos, or whether he was just imagining things.

He was simply afraid that when the day came that they had no choice but to flee, his family wouldn't even have enough money to leave.

But after he spent sixteen taels on his first horse, his father wouldn't even let him enter the warehouse.

**He'd bought a horse, but could his family really escape?**
