The Empress Has a Tough Fate, She Puts the Harem in Order with Slaps

Lu Zhaoye was cursed to bring misfortune to her husbands. After two fiancés died because of her, an imperial decree summoned her to the palace to bring good fortune to her sickly cousin, Xiao Wujiu.

The whole capital waited to see how this “ill-fated old maid” would die in the palace intrigue. Lu Zhaoye sneered. “I won’t settle for being a low-ranking consort. If I’m going to do this, I’m going to be the Noble Consort!”

As soon as she entered the palace, a scheming concubine started setting traps for her, while a favored consort tried to use her influence to make Lu Zhaoye kneel.

Lu Zhaoye rolled her wrists. “Scheming takes too much brainpower. If you tick me off, I’ll hit you!”

Today she slapped a noblewoman who spread rumors about her. Tomorrow she’d knock out a concubine who tried to poison her. The day after that, she beat the four most powerful consorts until they were sprawled on the ground!

She turned the entire harem upside down. The concubines banded together, sobbing as they went to the imperial study to complain. There, they saw the frail young emperor wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth and issue a hoarse decree:

“The Noble Consort’s hands are delicate. Send word to the Imperial Household Department to prepare ten sandalwood paddles for her to use when beating people.”
