Reborn in 1980: I Cut Ties with My Family and Got Rich with My Educated-Youth Wife

Back in 1978, the first thing Chen Jianye did was take his Shanghai-born, educated youth wife, who had endured endless hardship in the countryside, and sever all ties with his awful birth family.

Looking at the abandoned beacon tower, bare of furniture and battered by wind and rain, Shen Yujia bit her lip, convinced she'd spend the rest of her life begging for food in the mountains with her husband.

But the very next day, Chen Jianye came back from the hills with a thirty-pound badger, fat and dripping with grease.

On the third day, he brought home snowy-white flour, fine cotton fabric, and steaming pork buns.

By the tenth day, Chen Jianye had hauled back a massive wild boar weighing nearly three hundred pounds!

He renovated their stone house, cleared land to grow vegetables, raised hunting dogs to guard the place, and roasted meat to make fur garments.

While the Chen family were still fighting over a bowl of cornmeal porridge, Chen Jianye was stewing ginseng and softshell turtle soup for his wife, living like a king in the 1970s with meat on the table every day!

His awful relatives came calling, red-eyed and hoping to mooch off him.

Wiping down his double-barreled hunting rifle, Chen Jianye sneered. “Did you sign that severance agreement for nothing? Step into my yard and I'll break your legs!”
