They Say I’m Bad Luck for Husbands, Yet Four Men Insist on Marrying Me

[Period drama + hardship before happiness + everyone’s favorite + face-slapping + sweet romance] In 1960, three months after Lin Wanyin got married, her husband died in a mine. She became the youngest widow in the village, branded a husband-killer and left to support her sharp-tongued mother-in-law and nineteen-year-old brother-in-law. To make matters worse, she was born with a faint floral scent. The village gossips called her a vixen, and her mother-in-law cursed her as a bringer of bad luck. Lin Wanyin planned to stick it out until her brother-in-law came of age, then leave. But when Lin Tieshan returned from the educated youth settlement, he brought back three “brothers” with him: Gu Chen, a demobilized military doctor, reserved and disciplined, whose hands trembled when he examined her; Song Shi'an, a disgraced teacher, gentle as jade, who wrote down every expression she made; Huo Lang, a discharged scout, taciturn and sharp-eyed, whose eyes reddened whenever he caught her scent. Four men moved into her little courtyard. They helped her with chores by day and took turns “keeping watch” at night. The villagers called her shameless. She just smiled and said, “Go ahead and talk. I’ve got four men to protect me.” Her former mother-in-law comes to snatch a child? The four men block the door. A bully tries to take advantage of her? The four men join forces to beat him up. Village officials want to investigate her morals? The four men vouch for their innocence together. Later, when reform and opening-up came, she used her unusual constitution to build a spice industry with the whole village, becoming a famous “Spice Queen” far and wide. Only then did the villagers understand: the widow they had once called a vixen was the most capable of them all.
