You as you see yourself are not you, and you as others see you are not you. The people you see are the real you. If you accept this, you have embarked on the path of cultivation. If you want to cultivate immortality, that is not enough. You must overturn this idea: the people you see are not you either. They are merely images, shadows you project onto others after becoming attached to appearances. The path to immortality is a constant wandering between attachment to appearances and breaking free of them. You have never been whole; you have merely been pushed along by one illusion after another.
