Great Ming: I Said I’d Take the Civil Service Exams, but I’ve Gone All In on Military Strategy

He transmigrates into the Ming dynasty as Fang Tang, a penniless scholar who has failed the examinations ten times. He plans to go back to his hometown, farm the land, and live comfortably as a wealthy landowner. Who could have guessed that the few battered books passed down by his family would come to life!

[Your Analects is outraged that you spend all day fishing! To keep its master from becoming illiterate, it stayed up all night poring over ancient and modern records, realized that “the Great Ming’s laws are riddled with loopholes,” and started tearing into the entire court!]

[Your Art of War thinks the Ming army’s firearms are terrible, so it independently worked out Modern Combined-Arms Tactics for Infantry and Artillery!]

[Your Compendium of Materia Medica thinks you’re too frail, so it stayed up all night refining a miraculous tonic that can cure every ailment!]

Then, on the eve of the Tumu Crisis, the Oirat army arrives at the gates. The entire court wails and prepares to flee south, leaving Fang Tang with no choice but to climb the city wall. In the next instant, the Mozi in his arms flies out and transforms the entire capital into an ironclad fortress of war!

The Oirat grand preceptor stares at his army being mowed down by machine guns, scalp tingling. Fang Tang sighs. “I really am just a failed scholar. The books made me do all this!”
