I Became Empress, Only to Discover the Empress Was My Ex-Husband

The day I transmigrated into the empress of the Great Jing dynasty, I saw someone who should not have been there. My ex-husband, Xiao Jingyuan, whom I divorced six months ago. Now he is the emperor, and I am his empress. With the entire court watching, we have to pretend to be in love. But the more we acted out this false affection, the more it started to feel real. He argued with the ministers on my behalf at court, then went back to the palace and bickered with me over a dish of chili sauce. When he was delirious with fever, he clutched my hand and called my name. When he woke, he stubbornly insisted, “I was only worried you’d catch it.” He put the Empress Dowager’s ring away and said, “Let’s wait a little longer.” I knew what he was waiting for. I also knew what we were both afraid of. We were afraid that the love we pretended to share in this ancient world would fall apart when we returned to the modern day. Later, on the night of the full moon, he said, “Once we get back, I’ll court you all over again.” Only then did I realize that this man, who had been stubbornly denying his feelings for half his life, had finally learned to stop doing so.
