The 1970s' Beloved Little One: The Three-Year-Old We Found Is a Lucky Charm

[Historical Era] [Beloved by All] [Adorable Child] [Tidepool Foraging] [Marine Biology] [Feel-Good Read]

After waking up, Shen Yu, a PhD in marine biology, finds herself reborn as a scrawny three-and-a-half-year-old orphan in the 1970s.

From the start, she is dumped on a desolate shore strewn with reefs. The rising tide is behind her, and a pack of wild dogs that has not eaten in three days is in front of her.

Other people would cry in fear. She calmly turns over crabs. Others would run for their lives. She squats down to pick up seashells.

“The tide’s gone out? That... that crack in the rock has a big, big lobster in it,” Yu Yu says, tilting her little head.

The village’s old fishermen take one look. “A haul! Twelve giant lobsters in one spot!”

From then on, this baby-talking little dumpling becomes the darling of the entire Xiangyang Fishing Village.

No luck foraging at low tide? Follow Yu Yu, and you’ll pick up so many abalone and sea cucumbers your hands go numb!

The fishing boats can’t go out to sea? Yu Yu looks at the sky and says in her baby voice, “The wind will stop tomorrow afternoon.” And she’s right!

Someone picks on the fishing village? Yu Yu hugs her little shovel, her eyes shining. “You bad egg, Yu Yu will remember you.”

Then the bad guys discover that their boats’ hulls are covered in barnacles, their fishing nets are clogged with jellyfish, and they capsize whenever they go out to sea...

The stern commander of a coastal defense battalion holds the soft little dumpling every day and refuses to let go. “My Yu Yu says there are hidden reefs in these waters. You’re all to steer clear!”

The coastal defense soldiers: “...”

Commander, you lead armies of thousands. You’re taking orders from a three-year-old?

Only later do they discover that this soft, chubby little dumpling really does seem to “understand” the sea.
