The Princess Doesn’t Want the Prince, So Ertai, Step Up

After years of marriage to the Fifth Prince, Xiao Yanzi finally gave up hope.

She didn’t cry when the secondary consort entered the household.

She didn’t cry when the Empress Dowager made her kneel in the snow.

She didn’t cry when Yongqi said, “You can’t have children, so someone else has to.”

She only kept running her fingers over the old silver bracelet on her wrist, remembering how, many years ago, someone had blushed as he pressed it into her hand and said, “Xiao Yanzi, if you ever get tired of flying, give it a shake.”

Later, she was framed and thrown in prison, while the whole capital laughed at her.

He wore a Tibetan robe, his features stern, with three thousand cavalry behind him, trampling through the snow and wind.

He lifted her from the ground and wrapped her in his arms, clumsy and careful, just as he had ten years ago. His voice was hoarse, as if worn raw by the wind and sand.

“I entrusted her to you in perfect condition. Is this how you treated her?”

Only then did the court officials realize that the second young master of the Fu family, who had spent ten years as a mere foil for the Fifth Prince, was done pretending.
