All Living Things Are Unpredictable

In the 80,417th year of the Xuan Calendar, heavy snow blankets Beian.

Twelve-year-old Su Chang’an is on the brink of death, but manages to snatch one last breath back from the gates of hell. He awakens with the memories of a female teacher’s thirty-year life in another world.

From then on, the unsolved case that has haunted the Su family, the mystery of his father’s disappearance, and the duty of guarding the frontier, passed down through generations, all fall on his shoulders.

He has no god-given powers or peerless talent. If fate demands his death and Heaven insists he accept his lot, he will wield the memories of two lifetimes as a blade. Starting with the deadly trap before him, he will break the deadlock, seek his father’s trail, and carry on his family’s legacy, step by step reclaiming his own life.

From the snowy courtyards of Beian to the vast rivers and lakes, from sects and aristocratic clans to the battlefield of the Six Clans, he meets people who stand beside him as they seek justice, only to one day turn their blades against each other over their convictions. He entrusts his life to one person, yet can only watch as she slowly forgets his name. And he falls in love with a woman bearing the royal blood of another race, separated from him by mountains, rivers, and a sea of blood, only for them to ultimately draw their swords in defense of the people each has sworn to protect.

Only when the Gate of Heaven reappears does Su Chang’an realize that the feuds of the martial world, the war of the Six Clans, and the love and hatred of all living beings have all been written into a destiny set in stone.

If this so-called peace means depriving all living beings of the right to choose how they live and whom they love, then should this Heaven be revered, or cut down?

In this life, he will ask the Heaven that has loomed above for eternity:

What gives you the right to answer on behalf of all living beings?
