I Asked You to Work a Summer Job, Not Take Over the Country

[Behind the scenes + System + invincible + defending home and country] After the college entrance exam, Hao Yun was bound to a System. Every time he genuinely took a temporary job, he gained the highest temporary authority in that line of work. The key is that he has to actually get hired. He has to apply, register, clock in, and go to work. Even if the pay is only eighty yuan a day, even if the job is just moving boxes, handing out numbered tickets, patrolling a levee, or sorting packages, he has to do it properly. And so began a strange summer vacation. Torrential rains hit the south, and a city was on the verge of flooding. Sitting in a reservoir control room, Hao Yun coordinated upstream reservoirs, urban pumping stations, and underground drainage networks, forcing the flood peak back below the warning line. Severe storms battered the coast, and tornadoes changed course unpredictably. Carrying a weather balloon, Hao Yun took control of weather radar and emergency broadcasts, clearing danger zones before the threat arrived. An earthquake struck the mountains, cutting off communications. Hao Yun stood outside a service center handing out tickets, while restoring connections to the disaster zone with drone relays, satellite phones, and mobile base stations. He never appeared at a press conference or gave an interview. That’s because the System’s third restriction was that he couldn’t reveal himself voluntarily. If he did, his authority would be frozen for seven days. So Hao Yun was always behind the scenes, always wearing a temporary worker’s badge, always looking like an ordinary summer temp. His classmates asked, “What did you do all summer?” Hao Yun thought about it. “Nothing much.” “I just finished a few jobs.”
