I Disguised Myself as a Man to Escape an Arranged Marriage, Then Accidentally Married a Princess

Lin Yi spent twenty years in the Marquis’s household as the “Second Young Master.”

Half of her face was “disfigured” on the battlefield. Her fiancee broke off their engagement in public, then turned around and married Lin Yi’s elder brother. Her father delivered an ultimatum: if she didn’t marry, she could forget about getting her mother’s keepsakes.

Disguised as a man, she couldn’t marry any woman who knew her too well. She’d be found out.

So she paid a hundred taels to hire a filthy beggar off the street.

“A hundred taels, and I’ll marry you. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.” The woman thumped her chest. “I, Su Wan, only love money, not men. You could lie right in front of me, and I’d only count the banknotes. I wouldn’t even look at you.”

But she didn’t know that Su Wan had waited ten whole years for this hundred taels.

They’d met once at the South Market ten years ago. Now they were reunited, but neither recognized the other. Su Wan had played a widow, a flower seller, and a traveler, keeping up the act for half a year, all for the chance to stand before her openly one day and say:

“I’ll marry you.”

This was a sham marriage, with each woman keeping her own agenda. One was afraid of being found out; the other, of letting her feelings show. But when you keep up an act long enough, eventually one of you…
