Xiao Ke: This City Is Mine to Rule

Wang Weifan was squatting in a bathhouse, gnawing on a steamed bun, when someone kicked him to the ground.

He didn’t say a word. Three days later, the man who’d kicked him was thrown into an ice hole in the Songhua River.

No one said Wang Weifan had done it.

Later, he stabbed a local gangster through the jaw with a bottle of liquor, won an entire casino in a game of cards, and drove the only Mercedes 560 in town.

Someone asked how a bathhouse attendant had made it this far.

He stubbed out his cigarette on the table. “My life isn’t worth much. If you dare take it, I dare trade yours for it.”

He called the shots in this city.
