Reborn in the Eighties: Granny Leads the Whole Village to Prosperity with Wild Goods

[Elderly Woman Reborn] [Foraging in the Mountains] [Portable Space] [Everyday Family Life] [Raising Kids and Building Wealth] [Feel-Good Face-Slapping] [Period Setting and Farming] [The Whole Village's Comeback] [No Terrible Relatives or Frustrating Setbacks]

When Jiang Mancang turned sixty, her three sons despised her, her daughters-in-law schemed against her, and she eventually died of illness in her leaky old house.

When she opens her eyes again, she's back in 1980. Her husband has just passed away, the family is in debt, her children are at odds, and the whole village is waiting to see her make a fool of herself.

Who could have guessed she'd step into the back hills, find a stone key, and unlock a space called the Mountain God's Storehouse?

The space is small, but it can keep mountain produce fresh, speed up the growth of medicinal herbs, identify poisonous plants, and even drop "good fortune seeds" when she does good deeds.

From then on, Jiang Mancang refuses to put up with anything.

The eldest son is weak? She'll train him!

The second son is a slippery character? She'll set him straight!

The youngest daughter has been jilted? Good riddance. Her mother will find her a wider road!

When awful relatives come to steal their grain, she sends them straight to the commune to settle things properly.

When unscrupulous traders force prices down, she takes all the village women into the mountains to find buyers.

Wild honey, matsutake mushrooms, gastrodia, lion's mane mushrooms, wild grapes, and old ginseng roots: one by one, the mountain goods make their way from remote ravines into the city.

She builds a drying house, starts a mountain-produce cooperative, and forms an old ladies' mountain-foraging team. She saves an orphan, helps a widow get back on her feet, and leads the whole village, young and old, to enjoy meat and build new homes.

Later, city business owners crowd the village entrance begging for goods, county officials visit to ask her to start a factory, and her son, who left years ago, kneels and calls her "Mom."

Jiang Mancang only pats her apron.

"Don't just talk. Chop the firewood first."
