Everyone knows that Qi Heng has passed the palace examinations, and that Princess Pingning has finally given her blessing. She intends to visit the Sheng family and ask for the hand of their sixth young lady. But no one knows that Gu Yanka, Marquis of Ningyuan, has recovered from a grave illness and taken charge of the marquis's estate. He has long seen through his second son's feelings. When the old marquis heard that the princess was about to make a match, he announced across the capital, “I want to see whether the princess can propose faster than I can take a bath!” He prepared betrothal gifts overnight and arrived at the Sheng residence at dawn. He beat the Qi family to it, finalized the engagement, vowed to set up a separate household, and stamped out the schemes within the inner residence. From then on, Minglan was spared a lifetime of hardship and lonely battles in the household. With her father-in-law backing her and a loving husband by her side, she enjoyed a peaceful life and a perfect ending.
