This is no ordinary ghost story, but a bizarre supernatural law of cause and effect. Anyone who died with a grievance, an unfulfilled wish, or an unnatural death is forced to “return” on the seventh day after their death, possessing an object connected to how they died and issuing a “seven-day challenge” to someone close to them or directly involved in their death. Ye Xiang's grandfather survived several cycles back then and gained the Yin Official's Eye, but in the end, he too died in the cycle. Ye Xiang's task isn't to exorcise ghosts, but to resolve their grievances. If he fails, the dead will become true vengeful spirits after seven days, and his soul, as a “guide,” will be trapped in hell forever.
