Journey to the West: From Old Sea Turtle to Saint

“Grandpa Turtle, King Black Shark is attacking the island!”

The young man in black, sunbathing, rolled over and drawled, “What’s the rush? I’m just a little turtle demon. What could I possibly be up to?”

The next moment, a hundred-zhang-wide palm of water rose from the seabed and slapped King Black Shark into the mud.

While other demons cultivate by eating people and refining souls, he grows seaweed, raises coral, builds a water palace, and accumulates merit.

“The East Sea Dragon Palace wants to recruit me? Sure. Do I get a permanent position?”

“The Heavenly Court’s Water Department wants to inspect the area? Welcome. Have some tea first.”

“A Buddhist Venerable wants to pass through? Fine, but don’t step on my vegetable patch.”

Then, as the great calamity of the Journey to the West loomed, mighty beings from every faction suddenly realized that the old turtle in a corner of the East Sea, always going on about being afraid to die, had already turned a deserted island into an impregnable immortal fortress.
