The Nine Heavens Continent is shared by the immortal and demon realms. After the immortal-demon war ten thousand years ago, the demons were sealed in the Nether Abyss, and the hundred immortal sects took control of the mortal world. But now the seal is weakening, demonic energy is leaking out, and the world is in chaos.
Male Lead: Mo Xuanqing (Mo Xuanqing / Madman Mo)
• True identity: Supreme ruler of the demon realm and the mastermind behind the immortal-demon war ten thousand years ago
• Disguise: “Madman Mo,” an outer disciple of the Qingyun Sect who spends all day grinning foolishly, drooling, and chasing butterflies
• Personality: He seems foolish and harmless, but is actually calculating, ruthless, and always several steps ahead. He is intensely possessive of the female lead and will stop at nothing to achieve his aims, yet is tender beyond measure toward her alone
• Abilities: Nine-tenths of the Demon Venerable’s power is sealed, but even the remaining tenth is enough to crush the ancestors of the immortal sects. He is skilled at using his “foolishness” as a cover while secretly plotting
Female Lead: Su Wantang
• Identity: An inner disciple of the Qingyun Sect, born with a “Pure Spirit Body,” the only constitution capable of purifying demonic energy and the key to undoing the Demon Venerable’s seal
• Personality: She seems aloof and distant, but is soft-hearted inside. At first, she pities “Madman Mo.” After discovering the truth midway through the story, she flees in anger, but later his obsessive devotion moves her
