Rising in a Turbulent Era: From Widow to Powerful Woman

My name is Lin Zhi. I was born in a chaotic age and grew up amid upheaval.

In the first half of my life, I did everything I could to be a good wife. In the end, all I got was the label of “widow.”

I once thought that, in a man’s eyes, all my learning and knowledge of English and law were worth less than a pleasing smile.

Then the foreign merchants who had once looked down on me began lining up respectfully outside my residence to discuss business.

I have never thought there was anything wrong with being foolishly in love when I was young. If you’ve never fallen in the mud, how can you learn to look down on the world from above?

The first half of my life taught me about love. In the second half, I took back control.

A hundred years of wind and rain: that is enough.
