New Recruit Company: I’m Really Not a Monster-Level Soldier King

Zhao Shanhe is an eighteen-year-old from northern Jiangsu. He stands 2.48 meters tall, weighs 300 kilograms, and was born with incredible strength. With his fierce looks and intimidating eyes, he seems to radiate menace.

Because his father died as a border defense hero, Zhao was specially recruited into the army.

Everyone assumes the military specifically recruited him as a “monster-class future ace soldier.”

Zhao knows the truth: ever since he was a child, people have misunderstood him because he looks so fierce. He’s extremely sensitive, hates conflict, and is especially afraid of the legendary “old soldiers hazing the new recruits.” On the bus, a street punk of a recruit tries to hog a seat. One look up at Zhao sends him tossing his bag aside and giving up the seat. At the recruit camp, none of the squad leaders dares take him when they’re selecting recruits. In the end, unlucky Squad Leader Han Dong is forced to take on this “human armored vehicle,” along with a whole batch of oddballs: the brigade commander’s nephew, a fake second-time enlistee, a coward from a martial arts family, a gaming prodigy, a fitness influencer, and a socially anxious top student.

From then on, Recruit Squad Five becomes the most troublesome and most eagerly anticipated squad in the company.

Others train by shouting. Zhao Shanhe trains by causing misunderstandings.

Others stand at attention. He’s a wall.

Others fold their blankets. He slaps his into a perfect tofu block.

Others run five kilometers. Afraid of falling behind, he carries three comrades and still finishes first.

Others take their time aiming at the targets. Afraid of the gunshot, he closes his eyes and pulls the trigger, hitting a perfect ten rings out of ten.

The whole company is stunned:

“What’s this recruit’s background?”

“Isn’t he afraid of violence? How did he punch a sandbag to pieces?”

“Isn’t he socially anxious? Why is the whole brigade starting to talk like him?”

Zhao Shanhe trembles silently.

“Squad Leader, they’re looking at me so scary.”

Han Dong breaks down.

“Put down that training equipment first! It’s for the whole squad!”
