Why Not Become an Official?

My name is He Bule. Life is short, so why not be happy? After leaving the army, I passed the civil service exam and was assigned to the coldest office in the county: the County Records Office. I swept the toilets and poured hot water. The old hands treated me like their errand boy, and my ex-girlfriend sneered that a soldier like me was going nowhere. I just grinned and took it all. In the end, I did only three things: I found in two minutes the lost county records the archives room had spent half a month searching for; three days later, the female county magistrate personally requested me for a temporary post in the County Government Office; and within a year, I went from a junior clerk to a section chief. Now every county official was panicking. They started investigating me themselves, scaring themselves, and throwing themselves into disarray. I did nothing at all, yet they all fell.
