Bright Sword: From Deserter to Legend

The guns at Cangyun Ridge had barely fallen silent when a disciplinary notice demoted Qin Chuan to a mere private and dumped him in the Independent Regiment's most miserable Third Platoon. The whole platoon had five people: a jaded platoon leader, an orphan girl from the Red Army, a hulking coward, and an idiot who could do nothing but dig holes. They had no guns, no ammunition, no official roster, and couldn't even scrounge up a decent meal.

Yet this ragtag squad made a name for itself under Qin Chuan's command. In his hands, a Czech machine gun could be stripped down and reassembled by touch in the dark. They hauled back captured Type 38 rifles by the bundle. Even the brigade headquarters began asking, “Where's that Wolf Squad from the Independent Regiment?”

From a dumping ground unwanted by every company to a vanguard that struck terror into the Japanese, this is the legend of a group of outcasts who fought their way to glory.

(He could have stayed a deserter, until that Czech machine gun awakened a sleeping wolf.)
