After I Cut Ties, the Whole Prime Minister’s Family Begged for Forgiveness

Gu Changyuan transmigrates as the legitimate second-born twin son of the dynasty’s chief minister. But because his birth caused his mother to die in childbirth and his grandfather to drop dead from shock, he is branded a cursed, ill-fated star who devours his mother and ancestors.

His father despises him and names him “Gu Qi,” meaning “abandoned.” His stepmother hides her cruelty behind a smile and mistreats him in secret, while his twin brother regards him as a disgrace and bullies him without restraint.

Everyone in the household looks down on him. Even the servants take their turns kicking him around, treating him worse than an animal.

If even his own family is so heartless, then he wants nothing to do with the cold-blooded Gu household of the chief minister!

He kills a vicious servant who dared to abuse him, then forces his father to agree to let him be adopted into another family, severing all ties with the Gus for good.

After leaving the Gu household, he uses his modern knowledge to earn the top honors in all three imperial examinations and enters the treacherous world of court politics.

He combats floods, pacifies the borders, and takes on the great clans, crushing his enemies without mercy as he climbs ever higher.

In the end, he becomes the regent chief minister, wielding power over the entire realm. Even the old emperor entrusts the young emperor and the empire to him on his deathbed.

Meanwhile, the Gu family, who once cast him aside like trash, falls into ruin after cheating in the examinations and getting caught up in a struggle between princes. They lose their titles and official ranks, and the entire family is thrown into prison.

As snow blankets the land, his once lofty father, the former minister, leads the whole clan to kneel outside Gu Changyuan’s residence, beating their heads against the ground and pleading through tears and blood for him to return to the family.
